Hello there. I'm 21, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and I'm currently a biochemistry undergraduate at York Uni. Weasel's a nickname I've used for a while and I bear no resemblence to any grey-haired, one-eyed male prisoners from King John's torture chamber (bizarrely enough Smile ). My real name's Louise.

Given I was born in '88 I recall watching the show mainly from the repeats (sorry for making anyone feel old). At the time I absolutely loved it although but then didn't really give it much thought since *hangs head in shame*. Recently I've been getting nostalgic for programmes I liked when I was younger and really, really wanted to watch Maid Marian again, although I didn't know what to expect as other than the end theme tune (obviously), I only had very vague memories of the characters, lots of mud, and a tree called Susan. I bought the DVD box set and I am so glad I did.

To justify my somewhat novice status as a MM fan I have now rewatched all the episodes more times than I can count (I really need to study more - I'm in my final year) and it never gets boring. Just don't ask me to name favourites of anything, its too hard. This is so much more than just a kid's tv show. It's a brilliant comedy series in its own right with the added bonus that it's suitable for all ages to enjoy. There's also loads of jokes and references that I never would have appreciated before. I tend to get a tad obsessive when I find something I like this much and have to google everything about it, hence how I found this forum. Anyway, I've been lurking here for a while so I thought it was about time I joined.

I'm a big fan of British comedy such as Red Dwarf, Yes Minister/Prime Minister, Blackadder, Dad's Army, Only Fools and Horses, Open All Hours etc. Come to think of it, seeing as I was actually born when it first started, Maid Marian is actually fairly recent by my standards despite being 20 years old.

I hope everyone likes waffles because that was a big one. Embarassed

I love a good waffle.

Welcome! Can you tell us much about the box set? I think everyone here bought the DVDs individually so we don't know much about it.

Please stick around!!

Not much to tell really. There's 4 individual DVD cases with 2 Discs in each. These look identical to the individual series boxes and from what I gather have exactly the same special features: commentaries (congrats on this forum getting a mention btw), trailers, Series1 Quiz, Hunt the Chicken, Improvised sketches by the cast etc. and the cartoon booklets. The only difference being that they come together in a cardboard sleeve. The description on the back of the box reads:

"Shun your Shakespeare, chuck away your Chaucer, destroy your DVDs of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle! You ve got to make shelf space for the complete box set of 'Maid Marian and her Merry Men'. Never has so much fun and lunacy been crammed into one small cardboard container. If you tried to squeeze in even one more tiny joke, it would squash the others so badly they'd jump out and run home crying to their mummies. Marvel at the relatively young Tony Robinson's hilarious cavortings in the days before he got boring and started digging holes in the mud; watch the hysterically laid back Danny John Jules and realise there is life after Red Dwarf. Gasp at incredible six foot chickens, listen rapt to tales of volcanoes that spew forth mauve custard, and run away terrified from snailiens from outer space. You ll laugh, you ll cry, you ll be sick into a small paper bag and still come back for more... honest!"

I hope very much to find time to stick around. My final year project starts tomorrow after delays due to people being absent and labs getting flooded, but I'll show up when I can.
