My name is Clare, as my username suggests, I'm nearly 23, from the UK and I love Maid Marian and her Merry Men perhaps more than is reasonable to love a children's television programme. But it really is more than just kids' TV to me - it was such a huge part of my childhood. I've been watching it for the best part of twenty years and it has never stopped making me laugh.

I can't actually remember when I started watching Maid Marian, I was born in 1986 so was probably too young to appreciate it when it was first shown. But I vividly remember watching it on TV during the early nineties. The humour was just so gleeful for me as a child; lines like: 'Cut his head off!' 'But I haven't got any scissors!' seemed so funny and clever.
During the second half of the nineties, it seemed that Maid Marian stopped being shown on TV, so my only source came from our VHS of series one. It's a testament to the show that we were able to watch those six episodes over and over and never get sick of them. As we grew older, we noticed jokes that we hadn't understood when we were little. That's the beauty of Maid Marian - it's intelligent, not crass and embarrassing like some kids' TV. It's equally as funny for adults as it is for children - in fact I do sort of see it as an adults' programme, but with a U certificate.
It wasn't until a couple of years ago, when the DVDs came out, that I got to see some of the later episodes again. My brother bought series 2 and 3, and I think they're glorious. It's been wonderful to get re-acquainted with characters like Rose and Guy of Gisborne, after not having seen them for so long! I've not seen series 4 yet, though I'm going to buy it very soon (can't believe I haven't yet)... I can remember snatches from series 4 from when I was little though: Rose and Marian tied together, Marian coming back from Worksop with the shopping, a sort of theme-park by the seaside, and of course the Crystal Maze episode...

So yes, I think Maid Marian is fabulous and I'm always thrilled when I meet another fan, I hate to think of it being forgotten. I also can't believe it's twenty years old - it's not just that the humour hasn't dated, but it just doesn't look old. Perhaps because the scenery is so lush and green?

My favourites:
Episode: Ah I can't choose, I love them all... all from series one, and I'm currently enjoying Driving Ambition and They Came From Outer Space. I also love Much the Mini-Mart Manager's Son - Much is a brilliant character.
Song: He's Popular, The Whitish Knight, Robin Hood, Naked to the Visible Eye, Only Child and probably a few more.
Character: All of them... Gary and Graeme, Marian, Robin, Guy of Gisborne, Snooker, and that peasant with the bowl cut and the squidgy face, does anyone know who plays him?
Moment: My all-time favourite might be from The Sharp End of a Cow, when the Merry Men are confused by Marian and her double: 'How did you do that?' 'Do what?' 'Split in two like that!'. Also the bit when Robin mistakes Snooker for a being from another planet and puts on an American accent, and Marian tells him how stupid it is for Robin Hood to sound like that.

That just about brings me to the end of my introductory essay. Apologies for being long-winded, but I've been meaning to join this forum for ages and though I should do more than a mere 'hello'. Finally, I'd just like to share an anecdote that illustrates how Maid Marian has impacted on my life: a few months ago, a tabby cat strayed into our garden, and our cat was howling because he hates other cats invading his territory. My brother and I went into the garden, and as he picked up the tabby cat to take it elsewhere he said, 'Will this one do, sire?' We both laughed.

Hi Clare, it's great to see a new face here. Your story sounds a lot like mine (I'm also a 1986 baby). I hope you stick around and reply to as many threads as you like (doesn't matter if they're from 3 weeks ago or 3 years ago, we like fresh faces with input here).
